Games
We cheer at ALL Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Volleyball and Women's Basketball home games. We also show our support at Women's Softball, Women's Soccer and Baseball games. This is over 60 games in a year. Attending all of these games are all part of being a UH cheerleader.
Please note: Cheering at games are in addition to attending classes, practices, study hall, community service, performances, fundraisers and work. Work is no excuse for missing a game even if it is a last minute game notification (ex. play-off game).
Functions and Events
During the summer and academic school year, aside of attending school, all sporting games, practices and pep rallies, the UH cheerleaders attend a number of public relations and charitable events.
All appearances by the cheerleaders shall be approved in advance by the Head Coach and Advisor. Appearances shall be at places and events, which are considered in good taste. The cheerleaders shall appear only at events and activities, which will reflect positively on them as individuals, and as representatives of the UH Athletics Department and the University.
With due consideration to the size of the event, priority for appearances shall be in the following order: UH Athletic Department events, UH Alumni Association and other UH events and activities, charitable events and activities, and public relations events and activities. Cheerleaders shall not make appearances at political events and activities. In committing to an appearance for the cheerleaders, the Head Coach and/or Advisor shall give first consideration to the student's academic career and, in particular, attendance at classes. Other considerations to be weighed include (a) number of activities in that week, (b) the function or contribution of the cheerleaders at the event or activity, (c) the nature of the event or activity, and (d) other valid considerations. In some cases, the UH cheerleading team may have last minute performance requests. Work is not an acceptable excuse to miss a performance. Once a member commits him or herself to an event, it becomes mandatory.
The team also conducts various fundraisers throughout the year. Fundraisers include the following: t-shirt sales, organizing and hosting dances, selling various UH items, various performances, hosting the Hawai`i State High School Cheerleading Championship, and other miscellaneous functions that may arise. Attending these events and activities are all part of being a UH cheerleader.
Travel
During the course of the academic year, we may be asked by Football, Mens Basketball and/or Womens Basketball to accompany the team to an away game. This is based on seniority, grades, attendance records at practices, games, events, and overall attitude in and out of practices. The Head Coach and Advisor will make all final decisions for the travelling team.
